Atkin

We love these small-bodied wonders!  Our ‘Forty Seven’ is a lightly built X-braced guitar.  It sounds incredible for fingerstyle playing, and also has enough size and punch to make it great for flatpicking as well.

Our scalloped bracing system brings out the best in this smaller body, giving a bass tone that is strong and more commanding than you would expect from an instrument of this size.

Many pre-war examples had “baseball” bat sized necks but we add our standard C-shape Atkin neck.

Our ASJ model gives off some serious Everly Brothers vibes thanks to the double oversized tortoiseshell pickguard. The body shape is a medium jumbo which gives it plenty of power and volume, but at the same time offers a near perfect balance. The back and sides are figured Maple which together with the Baked spruce top gives the instrument a warm overal tonal character. The C-shaped mahogany neck has 14 frets to the body and is fitted with a bound rosewood fretboard, inlaid with our new Atkin double-diamond pearl position markers. Matching double diamond headstock inlay and Atkin Logo give this headstock a truly unique aesthetic. This guitar is traditionally finished in black but without a Pickguard.

Our Dust Bowl Series is inspired by some of the depression era guitars of the 1930’s. A lightweight all-mahogany body construction, scalloped braces, and soft-V neck carve that hugs your hand. The 16″ radius Indian Rosewood fingerboard with rounded-over edges makes ‘thumb-overtop’ playing easy and comfortable.

These Dust Bowl guitars have a full, rich and dry voice with enough of a push in the midrange to inspire any ragtime picker, while still giving plenty of warmth and openness across the strings to keep any player happy. It offers that ‘piano-like’ cavernous articulation in the bass end, and a sweet and well-rounded treble.

This very special Historic Series guitar is a loving recreation of Tony Rice’s infamous D28, a guitar previously owned by Clarence White, hence its name – The White Rice! With its instantly recognisable enlarged soundhole and overhanging fretboard, the original guitar is generally agreed to be one of the best sounding D28s in existence. We set out to build a no-compromise Dreadnought that would honour this exceptional guitar and its legendary owners.

While our regular Sitka spruce and East Indian rosewood Dreadnought packs plenty of power, sustain and projection, this guitar is something else. Thanks in part to the oversized soundhole, which lets more air in and out of the guitar, The White Rice combines incredible power – in Alister’s words, “it sounds like a cannon!” – with an openness and resonance that is unique. Accurate in every detail, from the 45mm nut to the detailed custom relic finish, this is not just the ultimate White/Rice tribute but, perhaps, the ultimate Dreadnought.
